And as though it is not enough one masterpiece, the second composition of an album, apparently, is even stronger. Undoubtedly, one of the most beautiful "conceptual" works ever created.

Singing was full emotional force, it was necessary to add only simple, but accrueing accompaniment - yours faithfully to nobleness and simple belief of the poor old man.
... The Old man has died before could hear record, but this thing remains the certificate of its spirit and optimism.
From diaries Gavin Bryars

Since for the first time has heard Sinking of the Titanic in fine version 1995 (which All Music Guide has named " a little pale "), searched for release 1976 - not for comparison - it would be desirable still the same. Now, when the disk is found and absorbed, it is clear, that comparison and is impossible, and if who here "pale", so it that critic from AMG;) Because Bryars has drowned different Titanics. If in 76-th is a certificate of human tragedy, in 95-th - its judgement. Though, certainly, both the same notes, and execution it is very similar

In 1971 Bryars helped the friend to film about the London vagabonds, writing down their drunk songs. The line from the religious hymn Jesus' Blood Never Failed Me Yet, sung by one old man, has hooked Bryars. In studio it has decided to make "loop" - has included record of a repeating phrase, has added loudness and has left for coffee, having left opened a door in an adjacent art workshop. Having returned, Брайарс has seen, that in workshop usually full of vanity, movement of steel as in the slowed down cinema, and eyes of the some people  are full some tears.

This composition too has later "expanded" version (1993) in which, in addition to the original, the same phrase has sung Tom Waits. Here I shall agree with  from AMG: more faintly. Not because Уэйтс it is bad, that is why, that "is too good" with all loop of the previous works, and in general, celebrities. However, I do not insist:)
